Blanco White returns with the Colder Heavens EP on 31 March via Yucatan Records, the first cut from which, El Búho, is available now via various download and streaming services above following its release on 15 February.
El Búho follows the release of White’s self-produced debut The Wind Rose EP (2016, Yucatan Records), the lead single from which, November Rain, premiered on Clash in the UK and was added immediately to New Music Friday US, resulting in the debut EP being streamed over 2 million times last year alone. Live White has been main support on Jessarae’s UK tour with shows performed at Communion at Union Chapel and at Notting Hill Arts Club, London.
Blanco White started as the solo project of Londoner Josh Edwards in 2014. After studying guitar in Cádiz, Spain, and later the Andean instrument the charango in Sucre, Bolivia, Edwards’ aim was to begin bringing together elements of Andalusian and Latin American music alongside influences closer to home, turning them into something coherent, whole and personal.
The result is a sound which encompasses the emotive folk-tinged singer song-writing of artists such as Damien Rice, with White’s voice “emotionally raw and instantly captivating” (There Goes The Fear), infused with an exotic flair and experimentation, akin to a Latin American Beirut. As Clash described it, Blanco White’s sound has “the lightness of touch is sheer Andalusian, but those lyrics are etched in London's Autumnal grey.”
Blanco White’s forthcoming Colder Heavens EP, recorded this Autumn with producer Ian Grimble (Bear's Den, Matt Corby, Daughter), is out on 31 March via Yucatan Records.
