Club 8 are Johan Angergård and Karolina Komstedt, an enigmatic duo hailing from a small village in the south of Sweden. They’ve toured the world, from their first live performance in NYC to everywhere from Tokyo to São Paolo and are planning UK dates for the summer. Yet they no longer play or do interviews in their home country.  A worldwide success, dedicated fans in the Philippines even named their son and daughter after them.  The duo, once a couple, decided arguing as band mates only was more beneficial to the creative process and they both regard the no. 8 as perfection, the infinity. ‘Above the City’ is album no. 8 from Club 8, its catalogue no. is lab148.

‘Above the City’ is a melting pot of explosive hop-shaking rhythms, breathy vocals, euphorically catchy melodies and faint tinges of 70’s disco melted in pop perfect songs. The sound raises comparison to Lykke Li through to Madonna.  In January, as a prelude to ‘Above the City’, Club 8 released the track + video for album opener ‘Kill Kill Kill’, kicking off excited anticipation for the album....

“Sumptuous atmosphere; even with a back catalogue full of them, it's one of their most hypnotic singles yet”. - Pitchfork.

‘Above the City’ is Club’s 8 first album since 2010’s critically acclaimed ‘The People’s Record’ which was described as “pure sunshine” by Under The Radar who included it in their ‘Top 10 Albums of 2010’. Pitchfork called the album: “Exquisite....indie pop bliss”, while in the UK, it received glowing reviews...

“The dreamiest dreampop imaginable” - The Sunday Times Culture ****

“Ravishing pretty melodies” - Q ****

Deliciously bittersweet guitar melodies” - Metro ****

“The summer album of the year” - BBC Music

‘Above the City’ sees  Johan Angergård back at the helm as Producer. The record was produced in the thirteen year old program Cubase VST 5.0.  “With less advanced technology at hand you need to create your sounds in a more ‘hands on’, in-artificial kind of way” -  Johan Angergård. For the ‘Above the City’ album, Club 8 have, among other things, worked with Russian field recordings, children’s choirs, samples from erotic movies and construction sites, used odd building material as drums and recorded in various sites such as basements and staircases to get the right reverb.
