Glasgow's post-punk, dream pop, jazz and R&B flecked LYLO are here to dazzle you with their emotionally charged, blue eyed, 80’s tinged soul. Delicately conceived of Cocteau Twins and Style Council moments, LYLO's seductive yet melancholic vocals weave around woozy synths and saxophone, tingling guitars, smooth, pulsating bass and a hot flurry of drum fills and tight as syncopated rhythms.
Coming from Glasgow's DIY scene and crossing over musical genres has marked LYLO as one of Glasgow's more distinct and appealing live bands. Their dazzling live shows draw you closer to their world, their vibrant stage presence (for early 20 somethings) and sum of the parts sound highlights the bands individual style.
LYLO are a three-piece centred around Justin Allan (drummer), Mitch Flynn (singer/guitarist) and Jack Seaton (bass), with much input from saxophonist Iain McColl. They’ve spent 2016 writing, self-producing and mixing new tracks for their forthcoming album Post Era.
You Have Your Father's Eyes - which was again recorded and mixed by LYLO and mastered in New York by Josh Bonati (Iceage, Wild Nothing etc) – is the first offering from the new long-player. Honing a post-punk sensibility having a fling with the pop charts, You Have Your Father’s Eyes is a groove full of synth and sample pad flourishes, fluttering ethereal sax, stabbing guitar lines and those signature dreamy vocals. It has already picked up an early play by Eddy Temple Morris (Soho Radio) and premiered on Gold Flake Paint.
You Have Your Father’s Eyes is released digitally and on limited cassette via El Rancho on 7 April (with the digital version available to pre-order now via Bandcamp and iTunes). The digital version is backed with the delicate sway of Submerge, which displays LYLO's subtly arresting mix of soul and jazz and the bands patience with space and time. The limited-edition cassette includes an exclusive third track Winner, an under the covers, bedroom R&B jam which will fully stretch your mind and idea of LYLO, their vision and influence plus a mix of You Have Your Father’s Eyes by Organs of Love.
LYLO play the following shows in March-April, including two Free Entry gigs in London:
5 April: The Waiting Rooms, London (‘Full Time Hobby Presents’ Night – Free Entry)
7 April: Joytown Electric Theatre, Glasgow
8 April: The Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh
** Also available for weddings and conceptual ceremonies.
